“Aaaaargh!”
Blood poured from my eye.
I clutched my face, writhing on the floor,
screaming like a banshee.
Everyone around me freaked out, scrambling
back.
“Blood! There’s so much blood!”
“Oh, my God! The scalpel went right into her
eye!”
“Liv, are you okay?” Mark scrambled towards
me on his hands and knees.
His hands trembled, reaching, then pulling back
like he was afraid of hurting me even more.
But all I saw was a monster, a two–faced freak
who wanted me dead.
I kicked him away, scrambling backwards,
shaking like a leaf.
“Stay away from me! Don’t touch me!”
Mark looked like I’d sucker–punched him, all
wounded and shocked.
<
“Liv, how can you not trust me?”
He sank to his knees, his eyes bloodshot.
“Anything you want, anything at all, I’ll do it. Just… please, don’t hurt yourself anymore.”
“Liv, please…”
Mark’s act was working. The people around us were buying it, especially the younger women. Some were even tearing up.
“That Dr. Miller looks like his heart’s breaking.
It’s so sad!”
“I don’t get it. How could such a great doctor
end up with a psycho like that?”
“If I had a husband like that, I’d be thanking my
lucky stars! What’s her problem?”
く
“I bet he spoiled her too much! She’s got too
much time on her hands!”
They were lost in their own little world, bashing
me without a second thought.
Pain was ripping through me, tearing me apart.
I was so exhausted, my mind felt like it was shutting down.
I slowly lowered my hand, letting the warm blood flow.
Nobody could save me.
Nobody could help me.
I was screwed. Second chance, and I still couldn’t save myself.
“Mark,” I said, giggling, the sound flat and
empty. “You win. Take it. Take my damn life.”
く
My vision started to blur.
My eyelids felt heavy, like lead weights. Looked
like I was gonna die here.
Damn, that sucked.
“Liv!” I barely opened my right eye, trying to
look at Mark. I was gonna throw a few insults.
his way, but…
He scooped me up in his arms. His voice was
tight with panic.
“I know you don’t trust me, so I’m getting
another doctor to save you! Hang on!”
I clung to the last bit of strength I had, staring
at him in disbelief. “What… what did you say?”
Mark started running, his expression set in
stone.
<
I said, another aoctor is going to save you!
You hear me? Liv, you gotta hang in there!”
