“It was just a drink. Why force her? It’s
embarrassing, especially over some secretary…”
Ethan was conflicted. Was I putting on an act,
or was this for real?
Before he could say anything, Chloe let out a
<
shriek of pain.
“Ethan… I’m in so much pain… I can’t walk!”
He glared at my pale, lifeless face.
Ethan scooped her up.
“I’m taking you to the hospital. It’s on the way.”
He ordered some guys to drag me to the car.
Chloe hadn’t even reacted, and the whole
team–building activity was cut short.
On the way, Chloe tried to brag to me like she
always did.
But I didn’t have the energy to respond.
I just grabbed my phone and fired off a
message to my lawyer, telling him to get the divorce papers to the hospital ASAP.
<
I couldn’t stand being married to this man for
another day.
Ethan seemed to realize something was wrong
and asked if I was alright, but I ignored him.
When we got to the hospital, Chloe opened the car door and waited for Ethan to carry her inside.
But, without even looking at her, he scooped
me up and ran into the ER.
Chloe was fuming.
The surgery was performed by Mike.
He looked at me, looking at the blood and
stopped in his tracks.
He handed the report to Ethan.
Ethan looked at the words “Pregnant” and was
<
“Pregnant? What is going on? Why didn’t I know
about this?”
“You’re her doctor, how did you hide this from
me?”
Mike couldn’t keep his mouth shut.
“I know you, and you are blind, one day you’ll
regret it.”
“Ethan, I’ve warned you. Lies always catch up.
You can’t keep running from the truth forever.”
“You forced her to drink. This baby isn’t going
to make it. She’s already had too many
abortions, it’s been too soon, her body hasn’t
healed. This surgery could mean she’ll never be
able to have kids.”
“Ethan, you idiot!”
“When the surgery is over, you figure out how
<
to explain this to Sarah!”
With that, he disappeared into the operating
room.

Ethan was left alone in the hallway, filled with
regret.
The surgery lasted three hours.
Chloe sent countless texts, begging Ethan to
take her to get her wound cleaned.
He ignored them all.
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw my pale
face after he’d forced me to drink.
The word “divorce” echoed in his head.
He couldn’t understand why his wife had
changed in such a short amount of time.
And she w
Or why she was requesting a divorce.
Or why he made his wife drink.
Guilt washed over him and overwhelmed his
sanity.
The moment the operating light went off, I was
wheeled into a room.
Ethan followed close behind.
At the same time, the lawyer arrived with the
divorce papers.
I was unconscious, still out from the anesthesia.
Ethan held the divorce papers, and his body
was shaking.
“She wants to divorce me?”
“She has no right to divorce me!”
<
“It’s impossible. She won’t leave me. She can’t
leave me!”
A tear rolled down his cheek.
I slowly opened my eyes.
I looked at the white roof.
“Ethan, let’s get divorced.”
“Let you go, and let me go.”
“I know you love Chloe. I’m granting your wish.
But everything that belongs to me, I’m taking.”
“The agreement is ready. The jewelry you gave
Chloe is included. I’m not trying to screw you
over. If you don’t believe me, you can sue me.”
Ethan’s eyes burned with anger.
<
Before he could say anything, Mike stormed in
and dragged him out.
“What are you doing? Did you not hear that
she’s divorcing you?”
“Yeah, so what? What do you want me to say?”
“Say that you didn’t betray her? Say that you
haven’t changed? Or say that those three
abortions weren’t your fault, and you didn’t
force her to drink?”
Ethan swayed on his feet, barely able to stand.
He pulled out a cigarette, but his hands were
shaking too much to light it.
Mike sighed, disappointed.
“Ethan, I’ve said all I can. You’ve screwed Sarah
over enough in the last five years. She just
wants what’s hers. What right do you have to
<
fight her?”
“I’m your friend, but I’m also an outsider. I’ve
seen it all. Without Sarah, you wouldn’t be
where you are today.”
“You owe all the credit to her, she did all of the
hard work, and she never asks for a single
dime. Why do you think those companies chose
you?”
“It’s all because of Sarah’s connections!”
“She’s been taking medicine for years!
Stomach problems, she wanted me to keep you
from knowing, why can’t you be more nice to
her?”
Ethan looked at the abortion reports, and felt
his heart drop.
Mike left him to fend for himself.
<
Ethan looked through Sarah’s conversations.
“Are you going home tonight? Don’t drink too
much.”
