Chapter 26
He was obviously very prepared for the date. He wore a nicely tailored navy blazer over a crisp white dress shirt, nicely paired with slim–fit charcoal trouser that gave a modern touch. A perfect silk tie and a polished leather Oxford in black.
Then he a nice classic wrist watch and a leather belt to enhance the sophistication, but as always, he was just a lying good for nothing bastard and I sure never want to have anything to do with him.
“I don’t want to hear it, Jared. Can I go home?”
I knew that there was no atom of truth in Jared’s mouth, he probably wanted to tell me another lie and I sure wasn’t in the mood for that.
I stood up from the chair and grabbed my purse to leave when he choked out.
“It’s about the pack.”
I turned to him, his expression was unreadable.
“What is it about the pack?” I asked hastily, turning to him.
“Can you at least dear down, Silverstone?”
I looked at him, it was very obvious that I didn’t want to sit.
“Please! Silverstone, I won’t waste your time.” His voice echoed in my ears.
I took my seat, clutching my purse and gripping it tightly for comfort.
That night at the moonlight festival, I know exactly what happened.”
My jaw dropped visibly. Was he trying to sell himself or was it just another drama to try and win my trust?
“What do you know about the festival that I don’t?” I asked, my brows raised, I blinked rapidly, processing the news.
“It’s about Marcus‘ son who was murdered. I know his killers. They were the same people that killed his wife. He paused, swallowing hard on nothing.
“You see, your father was not the only one that Marcus hurt. He has a lot of enemies both inside and outside the pack. There are a lot of things about him that he kept to himself. He even kept them from his wife.”
I wasn’t convinced that he was saying the truth, who knows he might just be trying to clear the suspicion in my head as Marcus mentioned his involvement in his trail.
“He is a very powerful wolf from the neighboring pack. He was the one that killed Marcus‘ wife and attacked Klein”
“You know about what happened to Klein?” My eyes widened in disbelief, nearly bulged out of my head,
“Yes, how do you think that the other beta’s were aware and rushed to the scene!”
That day when I had told Klein to go get his wife and his son, I remember specifically telling him to go alone.
When I went to see him in the hospital and he told me that after he was attacked that the other betas went after them. I 1/3

didn’t want to be angry as it was a matter of urgency.
But hearing what Jared just said now, I don’t know how to feel.
“How did you find out about the attack?”
“I have eyes everywhere in the pack, Silverstone. How do you think I became the chief negotiator?”
I was speechless for a while,
“So what’s your involvement in all this? Why did Marcus mention your name as an accomplice?
He was shocked, he probably didn’t see that question coming. I didn’t see it coming either.
“Wait, you don’t believe that liar do you?” He choked out, his brow was slightly raised and his eyes darted nervously.
“It doesn’t matter what I feel. Jared. What matters is the truth.”
“No, it matters to me, tell me. Silverstone. he stared at me intensely.
“Do you believe that I had a hand in our kings death?”
I knew it was a trap and I had to be very cautious so I didn’t unknowingly sell myself to him.
“If I did then you would be in the same place with him, don’t you think so?” I let out a fake smile, trying to ease the tension.
In the air.
“Or you think that I won’t punish you if you ever betrayed this kingdom?”
“I will never betray the Shadow pack, I’ll die protecting it.”
He sure thinks that I was a fool. Once I gather enough evidence against him, his punishment will be worse than that of Marcus. It’ll serve as a great lesson to all of the Shadow pack, he should watch and see!
We didn’t spend much time together as we ended up talking about the pack’s affairs. Besides, I needed a reason to leave. I wanted to go see Klein.
“131 drop you off at home,”
“There won’t be any need for that Jared, I can find my way around.”
“You barely know this area, let me. Please?”

The moment he dropped me off at home and drove off, I quickly took a bath and dressed up properly to see Klein. It was an official meeting so I didn’t do too much.
I just tossed in a fine red flower dress and a black pair of sandals, Klein’s favorite color is red, hence my red dress.
Maria intercepted me, her voice hoarse.
“Where are you heading to in such a hurry? You barely even got home. Is there a problem at the pack again?”
“No Maria. I need to tend to something urgently.” I explained, walking away from her but she held me back.
“I want to go with you. I feel very useless around here lately. Let me go with you, please.”
It’s true that I trust Maria as she has never given me any reason to see her otherwise, but I just didn’t want any other person’s
involvement.
I just wanted to do it myself until I was sure I could protect any other person that got involved.
“I can’t let you come with me Maria, please understand that.”
“Why? Because it’s about Klein?” I froze, how did she know?
